Petition to the Chowan County [N.C.] Court, 1772 June 25.

Hewes and five other men assert that the petition of William Brawner to be relieved from payment of taxes is justified as Brawner is physically unable to work. The petition was also signed by Jac. Sands, Jer. Hutchinson, John Lewis, Joseph Lewis, and a George Taylor. The petition is docketed that the court ordered the petitioner be levy-free.
